Horsham

Horsham

This eco house was designed for a film producer and director.

The house is on a complex infill site, located in a conservation area and adjoining protected trees. The principle of building on the site was established at Appeal. This has been followed by developing a design to meet Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

Design development has involved a number of solar studies looking at the day lighting potential of interiors and the shading impacts of the building form on the surrounding landscape. The interiors on the ground floor are largely open plan and arranged to frame the views of the established trees which form an important feature of the site. The connection between the interiors and the garden are maximised using sliding/folding glazing. The design blurs the distinction between the inside of the house and the outside.

Sustainable features will include solar collectors, a ground source heat pump, rainwater harvesting, grey water recycling, locally sourced sustainable materials, a ground floor home office and ecological planting in the garden.
