Castle Lane Cultural Quarter

The competition proposed a brief for a high density housing scheme on a site of national/international archaeological significance in the centre of Bedford . We disagreed that high density housing was the way to go. Our proposal took a long term view about the cultural value of the site. While allowing an area of housing our proposal retained the majority of the site as an urban park and event space for the city of Bedford . The archaeology was preserved in a construction concept based on a system of protected layers.
